The first thing that greets you at Vana Belle Koh Samui is water. Not the sea. That comes later. It’s rose water, poured over your hands from a small brass bowl, while rose petals fall into a large engraved vessel. It’s an old Thai blessing, meant to wash away the journey and whatever bad energy you brought with you. After a long day of planes and cars, it actually worked.
Vana Belle, a Luxury Collection Resort, Koh Samui sits in a small bay at Chaweng Noi, just south of lively Chaweng. The name means “beautiful forest,” and that’s exactly what you drive into: jungle on one side, the Gulf of Thailand on the other, and 79 suites and villas, each with its own pool, in between. Koh Samui has received plenty of attention since The White Lotus was filmed on the island. Vana Belle is the place to enjoy that same lush nature in a more peaceful setting.
We stayed in September 2026. In short: this is a distinctly romantic luxury resort in Koh Samui, with a beach you can swim straight from, a spa we’d fly back for, and an Italian dinner we’re still talking about.

Why Vana Belle Koh Samui Stands Out
The resort opened in January 2013 as the first Luxury Collection resort on Koh Samui. It’s owned by Thailand’s Asset World Corporation and operated by Marriott. The design is built around Himmavanta, the legendary forest of Thai and Buddhist lore, home to mythical creatures and divine beings. You see it everywhere if you look: bronze and gold elephants guarding the mirror pools, a bronze bird looking out over the sea from the lobby garden, and spa rituals inspired by the kinnari, half woman, half bird.

What sets Vana Belle apart is the scale. With so few units, it always feels intimate. And with a private pool for each suite, the main pool and the beach never get crowded.
Awards and Recognition
In October 2026, Vana Belle was named the No. 3 resort in Thailand in Condé Nast Traveler’s 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards, its fourth year in a row on the list (No. 2 in 2023, No. 6 in 2024, No. 5 in 2025). In 2025 it also ranked No. 8 in Thailand in Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best awards, and it is included in the Michelin Guide’s hotel selection. The resort is certified under the ASEAN Green Hotel Standard.

Vana Belle Location: Chaweng Noi Beach
The Vana Belle hotel sits on the slope down toward Chaweng Noi, the small, secluded bay at the southern end of Chaweng Beach. If you arrive by boat from Koh Phangan or Koh Tao, it’s about 40 minutes from the ferry pier in Nathon. Central Chaweng, the night market, and restaurants are a short taxi ride, and Grab works well on the island. A 7-Eleven sits right outside the gate if you need something quickly.
The resort cascades down a green hillside to the beach, and the buggies make getting around easy: call reception and one comes to pick you up. We used them often, and they always arrived quickly.

Arrival and Check-In
The entrance is a large portal with steep Thai roofs and tree shadows across the stone paving. After the water ritual you walk into the lobby, and here the architecture is at its best: dark carved wood, high arches, and glossy tiles that reflect the light, with an orchid on a round table in the middle of the room. At the far end the arch opens toward the sea.

We were given a cool purple welcome drink made from coconut water and butterfly pea, anchan in Thai, the flower that gives the deep color. It’s served on a wooden tray with the resort’s logo, with lotus and fresh flowers in a coconut shell beside it.

From the lobby a stone bridge between the mirror pools leads out to the lobby lounge, where the sea opens fully. It’s the spot for the first photo, and often the second and third as well.

Throughout the stay, concierge Sunny was our regular contact. He was incredibly professional and was there for everything, from buggies and tables to questions we didn’t even know we had. He’s the person you remember when you think back on the service.

Vana Belle Suites and Villas: Which One to Book
Our Suite: Ocean Pool Suite
At Vana Belle Koh Samui we stayed in an Ocean Pool Suite, around 86 square meters (about 926 square feet). The room is split into two levels: the bed sits on a raised platform with a few steps up, a sofa and a low table in front. Silk-wrapped pendant lamps hang by the bed, and a ceiling fan turns softly above. The bed was huge and seriously comfortable. On the wall hangs a pair of wing-shaped ornaments in blue and gold, a quiet echo of the mythical Himmavanta creatures you meet all over the resort.

On the table a welcome tray was waiting: two glasses of sparkling wine, a plate of passion fruit, dragon fruit, watermelon, and papaya, and three small sweets on a banana leaf. One of them was mango shaped like a rose, sitting on blue sticky rice colored with the same flower as the welcome drink.

In the bathroom, two vanities sit side by side under tall, lit mirrors, and the bathtub stands next to the shower. The products are Byredo, in the scent Le Chemin, and the water comes in glass bottles with the resort’s logo. In the corner there’s a Nespresso machine and a kettle.
The shower is a glass walk-in, and from inside it you look straight past the tub and out to the terrace and the sea. The deep bathtub sits right by the glass doors with a wooden bath tray across it, so a long soak comes with a view of your own pool and the bay. The robes are a nice touch too: thick cotton with a peacock print and the Vana Belle logo on the chest, ready for the walk out to the pool.

In the room we also found a small set of handmade wooden games: Jenga, Chinese checkers, dominoes, and tic-tac-toe. It turned out to be one of the coziest touches, perfect for a slow, rainy afternoon in the suite.

Jungle or Ocean View?
Every suite and villa has its own pool, so choosing one comes down to the view. Jungle Pool Suites are green and secluded. The ocean-facing suites look out over the bay, and the view widens as you move up, from a partial view in the Ocean Pool Suite to the full bay in the Premium Ocean Pool Suite. Ours still looked out over the bay between the villa roofs. For the fullest panorama, go for a Premium Ocean Pool Suite or higher.

Good to Know Before You Book
The suites are set on a hillside linked by stairways, and the guest buildings have no elevators, so if you’d like to keep stairs to a minimum, request a suite on a lower level when you book. The resort also has mobility-accessible rooms, so call ahead if you need one. Some suites have a semi-open bathroom, with the tub and vanity facing the bedroom. If you prefer a fully separate bathroom, let the resort know in advance.
Your Own Pool
The terrace is the room you use most. Ours had a 4-foot (1.2-meter) infinity pool, two lounge chairs with striped towels, lanterns, and a carved Thai roof overhead. The sliding doors open straight to the bed.

In the morning the pool is blue and sparkling, with the jungle, the pointed roofs, and the headland over Chaweng Noi behind it. The beach faces east, so early risers can catch the sunrise over the bay. In the evening someone lights the lantern, and the lights come on one by one along the headland.

The Beach and Main Pool
The beach is one of the main reasons to choose Vana Belle Koh Samui. The sand is fine and soft, the water is calm and clear, and the bottom slopes so gently that you can wade far out. You walk straight from the lounge chair into the sea.

The lounge chairs stand in rows under navy and white umbrellas, and there was always space. Kayaks and paddleboards are free to borrow. Our first afternoon went to the beach, and by five the light over the bay had turned soft and golden.
Right on the sand stands a weathered wooden bench with “Romance @ Vana Belle” painted across the backrest, facing the open water. It’s the obvious spot for a photo of the two of you, and an even better one for simply sitting and watching the bay.

Right behind the beach is the main pool, an infinity pool with deep blue tiles and cabanas standing in the water, with white curtains and jungle around them. The pool is open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. At the pool bar under a straw roof you get light dishes, cocktails with local Thai rum, and there’s happy hour in the afternoon. Next to the pool, a broad green lawn with loungers and striped cushions spreads out under tall tropical trees, a shady alternative when the midday sun gets strong.

Dining at Vana Belle: Kiree and Panali
Breakfast at Kiree
Breakfast is served at Kiree between 7:00 and 10:30 a.m., with a view over the bay. It’s a mix of buffet and à la carte, and we used both. The resort calls it a “bubbly breakfast,” with free-flow prosecco. It’s a festive way to start a special morning.
The buffet is neatly arranged. The fruit table has jackfruit, pomelo, papaya, pineapple, dragon fruit, and passion fruit, with salt, chili, and lime beside it, the way Thais eat fruit. Cereals stand in large glass jars on a solid wood table, with a whole honeycomb and baskets of local fruit. In the bakery, under a sign reading “Made with love,” there were croissants, pastries, and donuts, plus gluten-free options and Thai sweets such as thong yip and taro coconut pudding.

From the menu we ordered eggs royale with smoked salmon and hollandaise, and avocado toast with a poached egg. We’d happily order both again.

Kiree in the Evening: The Italian Dinner
In the evening Kiree turns into an Italian restaurant, serving dinner from 6:30 to 10:00 p.m. The dress code is smart casual. Chef Federico makes homemade Italian food inspired by his own background, and it won us over.
We sat outside on the terrace with teak tables, light cushions, and the jungle lit around us. From the edge you look down over the garden to the beach, and in the dark the squid boats glow far out on the sea.

We started with bread, grissini, and a dip swirled with basil oil, then a bruschetta with burrata, tomato, and basil. For the main, we had the Tagliata di Manzo, slices of grilled beef with arugula, Parmesan, and balsamic. It was heavenly. If you’re only going to eat one dinner at Kiree, order that.

Panali: Southern Thai by the Beach
Panali sits just above the beach, under a large straw roof and an old tree full of rattan lamps. The restaurant serves Southern Thai dishes from noon to 10:00 p.m.

One evening at Panali turned into one of the best nights of the trip. It was live music night, and a guitarist and a singer played by the beach as it got dark. Candles flickered on the tables, lanterns glowed in the garden, and fishing boats twinkled on the horizon.

We started with shrimp chips and Por Pia Thord, golden spring rolls stuffed with vegetables and served with sweet plum sauce. The main was Goong Phad Makham, a Southern Thai dish with tiger shrimp in a sweet-sour tamarind sauce and crispy fried shallots, with jasmine rice. Dessert was Khao Niew Mamuang: sticky rice, fresh Samui mango, mango sorbet, a crispy coconut flake, and coconut milk. There was that blue rice again, tinted by the butterfly pea flower that had followed us since the lobby.

Vana Spa

The way in is marked by a stone pillar with a bronze Vana Spa plaque and a wide stone bowl on top, with sunlight filtering through the trees. Vana Spa sits behind an enormous dome of straw, at the end of a wooden-plank walkway between flowering bushes. Through the door you see a statue in a niche, and you can feel yourself slow down before you’re even inside.
At reception we were given water and a short introduction to the oils. Four ceramic bottles with crackled glaze stand in a row, and you choose by scent. We chose Calming and Refreshing.

In the treatment room two towel swans formed a heart on the massage table, surrounded by rose petals, a lotus candle, and two leaves with our names written on them. We had a full-body couples massage, side by side.

Afterward we were given tea in ceramic cups and Thai nuts out in the garden, with an orchid alongside. It was the perfect way to land back on earth. The spa was one of the highlights of our stay, and we understand why it’s so popular with guests.

Our one treatment was the massage, and it left us completely relaxed. The spa’s signature massage is called Siam Boran, a traditional Thai massage, and the menu also has facials and body treatments. There’s also a gym that’s open around the clock.
Butler, Service, and the Team
Grand Pool Suites, Vana Belle Ocean Pool Suites (the resort’s 172 sqm signature suites), and Tropical Pool Villas come with a personal butler. We didn’t have one and never missed it, because the service felt personal from start to finish.
Every afternoon we came back to a new towel animal on the bed, made by our room attendant On, always with a handwritten note. The first card greeted us with a printed “Sawasdee kha” and a few warm lines in On’s handwriting, wishing us a good day and a blessed stay. Small gestures like that are what make a resort feel like it knows you. One day a fan of towels decorated with fresh flowers, another day two dogs with red noses and a towel doll. And one evening, after dinner at Kiree, a bath was waiting, already drawn, with foam and rose petals.

When to Visit Vana Belle
Samui doesn’t follow the same monsoon calendar as Phuket and Krabi on the Andaman side. The sunniest, most settled stretch runs from mid-December to April. The monsoon arrives in October and lasts into early December, and November is usually the wettest month.

We visited in September and enjoyed a mix of sunshine and soft, cloudy hours. Vana Belle shines in that kind of weather: you have your own pool, a spa worth an entire afternoon, wooden games in the room, plus a beach restaurant, an Italian dining room, and a pool bar, so there’s no need to leave the resort. And the beach looks inviting under clouds too.
How to Get to Vana Belle
Most people fly to Bangkok (see our Thai Airways Amsterdam to Bangkok review) and then on to Samui International Airport. The flight takes about an hour. The resort arranges the transfer, with an upgrade to its Mercedes service if you like, and the drive takes about 15 minutes. Send the resort your flight times in advance.

Vana Belle Price and Marriott Bonvoy Points
Rates follow the seasons, starting from around USD 430 per night for the entry-level suites and rising over Christmas and New Year. Looking for a Marriott hotel in Koh Samui? Vana Belle is part of Marriott Bonvoy, and you can use points here. Elite members (Gold and above) may be upgraded, subject to availability.

The resort is also part of Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts, so Platinum Card Members who book through American Express Travel get extras such as daily breakfast for two and guaranteed 4:00 p.m. checkout. Award nights typically run about 75,000 to 85,000 points, depending on the date.
Who Vana Belle Is Perfect For
Vana Belle is a natural fit for couples and honeymooners in search of privacy and a beach to swim from. It’s a romantic setting for weddings too, with ceremonies set up by the sea. Families looking for a relaxed stay are well cared for, with a kids’ pool, a kids’ menu, and a babysitter on request. At Panali, children up to three eat free from the kids’ menu, and children from four to twelve get half price on the à la carte menu.

And when you’re in the mood for nightlife and shopping, the bars and night market of central Chaweng are minutes away by taxi.
Once night falls, though, it’s tempting to stay put. Soft lights run along the stone paths between the mirror pools, the bronze elephant glows in the water, and the lobby pavilion shines from within, so even the short walk back from dinner feels like part of the evening.

Closing Thoughts
Vana Belle means beautiful forest, and the resort lives up to its name: a small green refuge between the jungle and the sea, where you’re met with rose water in your hands and sent home with a drawn bath and a plate of perfectly grilled beef. We came to Vana Belle Koh Samui for the beach and stayed for the spa, the dinners, and the small details. We’d gladly return to this luxury resort in Koh Samui, Thailand. Samui Airport was our last stop on the island this time, and it felt more like a see you later than a goodbye.
